The European Social Survey (ESS) is a biennial survey among the population of 30 European countries, since 2002. Dutch researchers are among the most intensive users of this growing and (inter) nationally significant data collection. The ESS is becoming the central survey instrument for a number of disciplines within the social sciences, particularly political science and sociology .
